Our Solutions
Community Development
We help build resilient waste collector communities that are able to exercise all their fundamental human rights through interventions that help them gain access to:
Health, Nutrition and Water Security
Good Education
Social and Human Rights Advocacy
Emergency Relief
Economic and Social Empowerment
We help develop economically independent waste collectors by providing opportunities for them to create better prospects for themselves and their families - with a focus on empowering women. We do this through:
Financial Literacy Workshops
Professional Upskilling & Skill Development
Access to Financing and Loans
Empowering Women Entrepreneurs
Development of Plastic Collection Systems
We invest in the development of the plastic collection infrastructure of India through improving the transparency, efficiency and income opportunities of grass-root plastic collectors and developing capacity in innovation and engagement strategy for working with the informal waste ecosystem that is the backbone of the recycling industry. Some of our focus areas are:
100% Traceability
Health and Safety Governance Systems
Social and Environmental Governance & Compliance
Research and Innovation
INNOVATION
FAIR-TRADE PLASTIC COLLECTION KIOSKS
In partnership with Essence, our foundation recently built a fair-trade plastic collection kiosk on Ullal beach in Mangalore, India. The kiosk provides an avenue for both beach-goers and informal waste collectors to hand in their plastic waste.
The waste collected at the centre enters our recycling streams, and we're also providing financial incentives for informal waste collectors that bring in large volumes of plastic waste from the area.
Our hope is that we'd be able to build many more of these across our coastlines and help keep our oceans and beaches clean.
Fun Fact: The kiosk was also made out of low value recycled plastic - about 413 kgs of it!
RECYCLED PLASTIC HOMES
A dual-intervention project, our recycled plastic homes use an innovative method to transform hard-to-recycle plastic waste into homes for informal waste collectors from low-income communities in India - thereby tackling both the issues of plastic pollution and homelessness.
After kicking off the endeavour with one home through the ‘Namma Manne’ project in partnership with The One Movement, we’re now partnering with Kimberly-Clark to build 15 more homes in Karnataka for informal waste collector communities.
